The Department of Culture and Tourism of Gurage Zone has announced that efforts are being made to increase the income potential of those involved in the sector by confirming the patent rights of the Gurage nation.

Producers engaged in the sector asked that the government should contribute to market linkages so that producers can benefit more.

The Head of the Culture and Tourism Department of Gurage Zone, Ms. Meseret Amerga, said that one of the indigenous knowledges of the Gurage nation is the sharing of food, and that this knowledge has been preserved and passed down from generation to generation.

“Yiwdere” is a meal that preaches unity and love, and expresses togetherness and empathy.

Furthermore, he said that when an honored guest enters, it is a way of serving food, so the procedure should be introduced and it is expected to explain why it is reflected in Gurage cultural clothing.

Ms. Meseret Amerega also stated that there are social philosophies to be added to preserve the beauty of the water.

The head of Wodere said that while it is working, it is a joint venture and the work is being passed down through generations.

Emphasizing the contribution of Wodere to the Gurage nation, the head said that efforts are being made to prevent complaints from similar products and others by protecting patent rights.

Ms. Yeshinesh Teka, the head of Eza District Culture and Tourism Office, said that various supports are being given to those engaged in handicrafts.
